Prediabetes or Pre-Diabetes
According to the American Diabetes Association, about 40 percent of U.S. adults ages 40 to 74 -- or 54 million people -- currently have pre-diabetes, which is marked by blood glucose levels that are higher than normal but not yet diabetic. People with fasting blood plasma glucose levels over 100 mg/dl yet under 126 mg/dl would qualify as pre-diabetic.
Pre-diabetes is a serious matter. In fact, recent research has shown that some long-term damage to the body, especially the heart and circulatory system, may already be occurring during pre-diabetes. To make matters worse, most pre-diabetics go on to develop Type 2 diabetes within 10 years, unless lifestyle changes are made.
Prevention of Type 2 diabetes is possible, however. According to the American Diabetes Association, research has shown that losing 5 to 7 percent of body weight through increased physical activity and a reduced fat and lower calorie diet can help prevent diabetes.
Pre-diabetics can also get nutritional support for healthy blood sugar levels naturally through dietary supplementation with Caucasian blueberry leaves extract. This extract has been shown to reduce absorption of sugars through the intestines, reduce production of glucose in the liver, and accelerate glucose metabolism.*
